- This piece is perfect for habitats that require a hiding or nesting place. It features cavities or areas underneath or within the wood that provide a great shelter for species such as lizards, snakes, tarantulas and hermit crabs.
- About natural wood and tannins: Natural wood will likely stain the water with a tea-like color when submerged. A remedy is to boil the wood in water several times, discarding the water each time. This will sometimes darken the wood, and will aid in waterlogging it. Tannins are not reported to be harmful to fish.
- Waterlogging: Boiling and continued submersion will aid in waterlogging your natural wood pieces. A faster remedy to waterlogging is to use clear monofilament (fishing line) to attach the wood to a decorative rock to keep the piece submerged.
